My trip to Nicosia, Cyprus was filled with rich history, delicious food, and beautiful sights. From exploring the numerous museums and ancient buildings, to shopping at the local markets and indulging in the local cuisine, there was never a dull moment. The hospitality and warmth of the Cypriot people made my visit even more memorable, and I can't wait to return to this wonderful city.

Day 1

Exploring the Heart of Nicosia

  • Hotel: Centrum Hotel Nicosia
  • Start the day with a hearty breakfast at The Food Lodge, known for their home-cooked meals.
  • Take a stroll through the historic center of Nicosia and explore the old Venetian walls of the city.
  • Visit the Byzantine Museum, home to a vast collection of religious and cultural artifacts.
  • Head to Ledra Street for some shopping and people watching. The pedestrianized shopping area features both international brands and local shops.
  • Have a late lunch at Kafenio Apomero, for a truly traditional Cypriot meal.
  • End the day with a visit to the OXI Square, a bustling and vibrant area with plenty of cafes and bars to enjoy.

Venturing Beyond the City

  • Start the day with breakfast at the Kala Kathoumena Cafe, known for their local pastries and coffee.
  • Make your way to the Cyprus Museum to dive deeper into the country's rich history.
  • Visit the Selimiye Mosque, which was originally built as a cathedral in the 13th century, and which today stands as one of the city's most impressive landmarks.
  • Take a trip to the Kykkos Monastery, located in the Troodos Mountains outside Nicosia.
  • Enjoy lunch at the To Anamma Restaurant, located in the heart of the village of Kakopetria.
  • End the day with a walk through the Ayios Antonios Market, a bustling and lively area, featuring a variety of stalls and shops that sell everything from handmade crafts to traditional food.

Plane

The best way to get to Nicosia, Cyprus by plane is to fly into Larnaca International Airport and then take a taxi or bus to Nicosia. The airport is located approximately 42 km south of Nicosia, and there are several airlines that operate flights to Larnaca from major cities around the world.

Car

If you're traveling from other parts of Cyprus, the best way to get to Nicosia, Cyprus is by car. The city is easily accessible from all major cities on the island. The A1 motorway connects Nicosia with other major cities, including Limassol and Larnaca. Parking can be difficult in the city center, so it's best to use public transport once you arrive.

Train

Unfortunately, there are no train services that run to Nicosia, Cyprus.

Since Nicosia is located inland, there are no boat services that run to the city.
