The Best of Coimbra

  • Coimbra is perfect for a stag do, with history, culture, great food and vibrant nightlife! Here's what you can do in just 1 day:
  • Start with coffee and pastries at Cafe Santa Cruz, a historic cafe that used to be a church. A great way to experience how seamlessly the past merges with the present in Coimbra.
  • Visit the Biblioteca Joanina, one of the most beautiful libraries in the world with works dating back to the 1300s. Fun fact the books are protected from insects by bats that live in the library!
  • Wander the streets of the old town, stopping at the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha, and Coimbra Cathedral. The town is full of historic buildings, and there’s so much to discover.
  • Have lunch at O Bota Alta, which has amazing views over the city and some of the best food in town. Go for the grilled octopus, if it's available!
  • Visit the famous University of Coimbra, one of the oldest in Europe, and explore its amazing baroque architecture. Try to catch the traditional "Fado de Coimbra", a kind of mournful singing typical of the region.
  • Finish off the day with some beer and tapas in Parque Dr. Manuel Braga, a great place to watch the sunset and relax. Alright! Now you’re ready for the nightlife. Head to Praça da República to enjoy the buzz of the city and give a toast to the groom-to-be.
